George Steinbrenner had ties to UNC, Tar Heels baseball

George Steinbrenner, principal owner of the New York Yankees who died today, and his family had several ties to UNC and its baseball program. Steinbrenner's daughter, Jenny, graduated from UNC in 1981 and later married another UNC alumnus, Stephen Swindal. Steinbrenner brought the Yankees to Boshamer Stadium to play spring exhibition games against the Tar Heels in 1977, 1979 and 1981.
