T.J. Yates will almost assuredly be UNC's starting quarterback in its season opener on Sept. 4, barring an injury in practice or an unforeseen development in competition at the position. Coach Butch Davis said yesterday that Yates has done nothing to lose his job, after watching last Saturday's scrimmage. Yates firmed up the slight edge over Renner that Davis said he held as a three-year veteran.
