On Saturday night in the Georgia Dome, the [NCAA] siege seemed to abate, if just for the time being. No. 18 UNC, which was playing without 13 players, including six starters on defense, took No. 21 LSU to the last play of the game before losing, 30-24, in front of a crowd of 68,919. Humiliation was replaced by pride, and Davis, who is in his fourth season at Carolina, cannot help but regain some stature.
