Charlie Strong’s Cardinals turned a tour de force into a tour de farce Saturday, escaping with a queasy 39-34 victory over North Carolina after building a quasi-insurmountable 36-7 lead. What began as a brilliant and dominant demonstration devolved into a desperate goal-line stand that ultimately ended with a 5-foot-9 Louisville cornerback breaking up a fourth-down pass to a 6-foot-3 Carolina receiver.
