UNC basketball recruiting roundup: Woods, Blakeney, Thomas, Stone, Late Night
Posted Oct 28, 2013
Here are a few UNC basketball recruiting notes from the past week:
Friday night was North Carolina's annual "Late Night with Roy" season tipoff event, and as usual the Tar Heels hosted several recruits. Here's the list:
• Theo Pinson, 2014 small forward, UNC commit
• Justin Jackson, 2014 small forward, UNC commit
• Joel Berry, 2014 point guard, UNC commit
• Brandon Ingram, 2015 small forward
• Harry Giles, 2016 power forward
• Jalek Felton, 2017 shooting guard
Seventh Woods, a 2016 point guard from Columbia, South Carolina, received a scholarship offer from Roy Williams. He is the third member of UNC's 2016 basketball recruiting class to receive an offer.
2015 shooting guard Antonio Blakeney is receiving heavy interest from North Carolina.
2015 center Elijah Thomas wrote a blog entry in which he explains why he had to trim his extensive school list down to a more manageable 24. UNC made the cut although Thomas has yet to receive an offer from the Tar Heels.
2017 shooting guard Jalek Felton, the nephew of former UNC and current Knicks star Raymond Felton, not only attended Late Night with Roy, he was also recently named the top freshman at the Jim Couch Showcase in New York City.
UNC remains in the running for 2015 center Diamond Stone. Stone holds an offer from UNC and says that Roy Williams loves his game.
Ivan Rabb has a new highlight video online that contains a nice mix of his Summer highlights. The 2015 power forward also has a scholarship offer from UNC.
This isn't recruiting-related, but apparently this year's "Secret Scrimmage" against Vanderbilt didn't go too well for the Tar Heels, according to recruiting analyst Jeff Goodman of ESPN: "Keep hearing that Vandy took it to UNC in "secret scrimmage", but no Hairston, McDonald or Tokoto. McAdoo looked lackluster -- per source."
Former UNC Recruits in the News:
Former UNC recruits Tyus Jones (2014 PG), Jahlil Okafor (2014 C), and Justise Winslow (2014 SF) all visited Duke over the weekend.
James Blackmon (2014 SG) visited Indiana over the weekend.
Devin Booker (2014 SG) visited Missouri this weekend for the second weekend in a row.
