was back home recently, site of some his greatest triumphs as a basketball player and the starting point for a life in the game. As a star guard at Asheville High, he was a highly recruited shooter, winning the Associated Press' Player of the Year Award in 1981, edging out a kid from Wilmington named Jordan who would later become his college roommate and best man at his wedding.
