Bill Guthridge and the road not taken

I first met Bill Guthridge during my freshman year at UNC, but we didn’t really become acquainted until the mid-seventies. As a young radio reporter, I decided to take up running. Knowing that Coach Guthridge was also a runner, this shared interest gave us something beyond basketball to talk about during the tense ACC seasons. “Did you run today?" "Sure did, how about you?”
