Heels beat Pack, are alone in 1st


North Carolina stormed past N.C. State 83-64 last night at the Smith Center and took sole possession of first place in the ACC. North Carolina went on a 23-9 run starting with 16:28 left to break out of a 45-45 tie. The run gave North Carolina a 68-54 lead that proved insurmountable in the final 8:42. Coach Sidney Lowe of N.C. State missed the second half after becoming dehydrated and feeling faint. (Winston-Salem Journal)
