Dean Smith was already a winner, but going into the 1981-82 season the one thing he didn’t have on his resume was an NCAA basketball title. His principles of teamwork, unselfishness, flawless execution, diligent practice makes perfect, and character had already made him a stellar head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, a position he’d held since the 1961-62 season.
