COLLEGE FOCUS: Tobacco Road? In football, it's tobacco roadkill

In the nation's hotbed of big-time college basketball, the football teams along Tobacco Road can boast of victories this season over the nation's No. 2 and No. 4 teams. Here comes the punch line: Those teams are ranked in the, ahem, Division I-AA poll. Yes, there will be serious talk of conference titles and possible national championships in a few months when North Carolina, Duke and N.C. State take their annual place in college basketball's Top 25. But for now, in the middle of football season, the schools are nothing but Tobacco Roadkill: Three basketball powerhouses who entered the weekend 0-6 against I-A competition. (Charlotte Observer)
