Melee in '59 helped heat up rivalry between Tar Heels, Deacons


The ACC had only been in existence three years when players from North Carolina and Wake Forest got into their first brawl, but that 1956 incident was nothing compared to the melee between the two teams in 1959. In between the fights was a narrow Tar Heel win – and a hotly disputed call – with mammoth implications. Fights were commonplace in those early days. (WRAL Sports Fan)
