Coach Bill's Video Evaluation: James McAdoo

Each day this week, former college basketball coach and Tar Heel Times contributor, Coach Bill, will offer his insights into several of UNC's top-rated basketball recruits. Today he analyzes 2011 UNC power forward commit (6-8, 205, Norfolk VA).

In the video clips below, what stands out to me is that as a 6'8" forward, displays dynamic aggressiveness and finishing ability through the lane. He attacks the rim both in transition and in the half-court from high post and wing. He should be an absolute force in the open court in UNC's uptempo system.

McAdoo will also be a tough matchup for college forwards to defend away from the basket due to his quickness, ball skills and consistent desire to attack the basket. He already has good strength to seek and absorb contact. I can see him drawing fouls in volume and consistently being a threat for traditional 3-point plays.

While McAdoo is not a "great" shooter at this point, he is very capable of knocking down some perimeter shots out to the 3-point line. He is also capable of creating mid-range shots due to his high release. As an interior scorer, his combination of quickness, soft touch and long arms makes him a threat to score over defenders across the lane.

At this time, however, McAdoo does not possess polished low block footwork, but his high-level natural ability, super-aggressive attack mentality and terrific scoring instincts allow him to be a player that makes "tough shots".

With continued development as a shooter, McAdoo has the potential to be a big-time scoring forward in college and should get to the free throw line at a high rate. He also should provide some big games as a rebounder as well. The video clips below also display his capacity as a shot blocker with his quick leaping athleticism , long arms and timing.
