Four UNC Student-Athletes Earn Phi Beta Kappa Induction

Four UNC student-athletes have been selected for Phi Beta Kappa honorary society induction this spring. Andrew Fregenal (fencing), Madeline Kraft (cross country), Emerson Porter (track & field) and Sofia Triana (rowing) were among 213 students honored. Hundreds of people gathered at UNC’s indoor practice facility for National Girls & Women in Sports Day in Chapel Hill on Sunday, January 19. Participants practiced with UNC’s women’s soccer team. UNC celebrates eighth annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day

It was a day of celebrating women's sports at North Carolina, as 15 varsity teams representing 36 national championships greeted over 1,200 visitors for UNC's eighth annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Each team set up a station with a "mini-clinic" so the hundreds of grade-school children could get autographs from their favorite UNC athletes. (Daily Tar Heel)

Five UNC Student-Athletes Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

Five Tar Heel student-athletes were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honorary society on November 6. Tar Heel Athletes' Graduation Rates Continue To Climb

The percentages of Tar Heel student-athletes who earned their undergraduate degrees at the North Carolina improved again in several NCAA measures released today, including single-year and four-year cohorts in both the Graduation Success Rates and the Federal Graduation Rate. ‘He is the program.’ UNC’s first and only fencing coach retires after 52 years.

Until late June, Ron Miller, 74, had been at the helm of the UNC fencing program for 52 years. He was the school’s only fencing coach since it started in 1967. He’d coached 14 collegiate All-Americans, five U.S. National Fencing Team selections and two Olympians, and he’d sent at least one UNC fencer to the NCAA Championships in each season of his career. Tar Heels Claim 21st Top-10 Directors' Cup Finish

A national championship in field hockey, an NCAA runner-up finish in women's soccer and a trio of third-place ties led the University of North Carolina to 10th place in the final 2018-19 Directors' Cup standings. It's the 21st time in 26 years of the Directors' Cup the Tar Heels have finished in the top 10. UNC amassed 987 points, 0.17 points ahead of LSU. (GoHeels.com)

The UNC Strength & Conditioning staff announced team awards for the 2018-19 school year, recognizing student-athletes from Olympic sports who excelled as part of in-season and out-of-season programs.
